BMX founding father Breithaupt dies at 57

BMX Hall of Famer and SE founder Scot Breithaupt dead at 57

Founding father of the BMX and SE Racing creator Scot Breithaupt has died, aged 57. The 20-inch wheel pioneer had earlier overcome cancer, but was sadly found dead in a tent in Indio on Saturday.

Even in his youth, Scot had big plans for BMX, placing it inside the LA Colliseum for the Yamaha Gold Cup race, watched by 16,000. SE Racing stands for Scot Enterprises, the company which he founded and later sold on, but still operates today within the BMX market and, increasingly, beyond.

Breithaupt was inducted into the BMX Hall of Fame in 1990 following a career in which he had represented the sport on television, as well as raced himself.

Below you can watch a segment of Joe Kid on a Stingray dedicated to Breithaupt’s memory.
