BMC has expanded its VAR0 offering with the brand now providing raw ‘ready to paint’ framesets across Fourstroke R 01, Teammachine R and Teammachine SLR 01.

VAR0 offers customers the brand’s “purest blank canvas” – stripped back to raw carbon and finished only with an ultra-light PU coat, delivering the lightest possible frameset, fully rideable out of the box.

What is VAR0?

VAR0 is BMC’s 01 level frameset, stripped back to the bare essential clear coat –with “0” signifying no colourway, Variation 0. This minimal surface coat preserves the natural texture of the carbon and the interesting surface variations that that offers. VAR0 features the lightest cosmetic finish possible – and one that provides the base for a custom paint project.

This minimal coating protects the carbon and requires very little preparation work before the application of the custom paint job.

For some, the weight saving will be the point of appeal – potentially in the region of 125g depending on the paint finish – whilst for others, it will be the opportunity to have a brand new bike custom painted that will be the draw.

Custom paint. One of one: Unique to you.

BMC points out that VAR0 framesets have been designed specifically to be customised, enabling bike shop customers to purchase their frameset, then take it to their trusted painter to create a unique finish – from minimal raw carbon to one-of-a-kind designs.

Where BMC does not offer a painting service, the brand offers VAR0 as a means to enable customers to create one-off works of art or minimalist, lightweight, custom bikes.

Warranty. Warranty. Warranty

Framesets remain fully covered under BMC’s warranty; however, any custom paint job needs all preparation to be carried out with the appropriate level of care and expertise to protect the frame.

“Framesets will be covered by BMC’s warranty – but not the custom paint – as long as all legal decals remain in place. Here’s looking at you, UCI sticker… ”
