Contract includes biggest Bikeability programme in England

BikeRight! sights growth following contract win

Following winning the renewal of a Merseyside training contract, cycle development and training provider BikeRight! is planning a move to larger premises.

The firm has secured a further three years with Merseyside cycling interventions for a three-year programme of Bikeability, cycle maintenance training, workplace cycling and community projects across Merseyside.

The contract, which includes the largest Bikeability programme in England, is funded by Merseytravel as part of the Merseyside Transport Partnerships TravelWise Campaign and will see BikeRight! providing Bikeability training to 12,000 children in more than 350 schools as well as working with hundreds of adults, businesses and community groups.

MD Liz Clarke said: “It’s taken a lot of effort over the last few months to put our tender submission together, it’s been a real team effort. We have been working with Merseytravel for three years already and now have the opportunity to build upon an already successful formula to help our partners realise their aims of increasing cycling across Merseyside.”

BikeRight! is now looking to move to larger premises in North Liverpool having outgrown its current base there.

The contract is due to start in August and will see a continuation of existing work and services currently undertaken by Bikeright! across Merseyside.

Councillor Liam Robinson, Chair of Merseytravel said: “Continuing to encourage and develop cycling across Merseyside is one of our key objectives, helping to reduce congestion on our roads and achieve our carbon emission targets whilst promoting a healthy lifestyle and providing access to employment and services.

“The support provided through this contract will give a real boost to cycling in the City Region, which has already seen a significant increase since 2006. The training and activities offered to school pupils and adults helps to increase their skills and confidence and in turn leads to many becoming regular cyclists.”

BikeRight! trains over 20,000 children and adults every year across the North West, North East and the West Midlands and have five offices; Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and two in Liverpool.
