BikeFest to debut in Birmingham this September

Birmingham is set to benefit from a new family cycling festival, dubbed BikeFest, that will centre around fun family cycling.

Taking over the Eastside City Park from 10am to 6pm on September 13th, the free to attend event will offer a closed circuit one-mile route, demos from Action Sports Tour and BMX riders, as well as have a go stunt sessions.

There’s also opportunity for cycling retailers and brands to pitch up at the event, with Strider one such brand sponsoring a kids zone for those aged 18 months to five years old to try balance bikes.

Councillor Lisa Trickett, Cabinet Member for Sustainability at Birmingham City Council, said: “We are very excited about bringing BikeFest to the people of Birmingham and the region. This family friendly event is the perfect opportunity to help drive the message around why cycling is so beneficial.

“BikeFest is just one part of Birmingham Cycle Revolution which aims to change the culture, attitude and perception of cycling whilst improving health and traffic congestion across the region. We would encourage anybody who has an interest in cycling or, anyone who is just looking for a fun day out in the city, to head on over and join us.”

The debut event hopes to draw around 15,000 attendees.

Last month Birmingham began the process of giving away 5,000 bicycles to citizens in need.
