A server upgrade will be taking place from 9.15am tomorrow and will take most of the day. The whole of this site will be down so if you wish to research any archived subjects, find companies using the online BikeBizBible or scope the job ads, do so tonight or early tomorrow morning. Many other UK bike websites will also be displaying just holding pages tomorrow because we all share a single webmaster, the shy and unassuming Si Watts.

Bikebiz.com and other sites will be offline Wednesday

The server is moving from the current datacentre in Sheffield to a state of the art facility in London.

"To complete the move, the servers will be unplugged at 9:15am, bundled into the boot of a car and driven down the M1," said webmaster Si Watts.

And it’s his car.

"I cannot make any guarantees about the time that normal service will resume, but we hope to have everything back up to speed by 3pm."

What if he’s squished by a juggernaut?

"We have full backups of both the database server and the front end web files server," promised Watts.

"In reality there’s no greater risk by me driving it down that any of the alternatives. In some respects it will be safer since we know exactly what treatment the servers are getting en-route whereas heaven knows what

handling they might receive in the hands of a courier!

"The ‘squished by a juggernaut’ possibility is never gonna happen because I’m immortal…or is that immoral?"

Watts is also the webmaster for the Bicycle Association, Bike Week, Concept Cycling, Amba Marketing and 50 IBDs. He promised to stay alive for the sake of the bicycle trade:

"I shall wrap myself in a Kevlar steel reinforced body suit, not stop off at greasy spoons and not smoke in the car tomorrow."
