Cyclists in Kent can frequent their very own cycle-friendly pub – but the Freewheel in Graveney is more than just somewhere to sup it also has a fully-equipped workshop for servicing bikes, stages bike-themed events and is to open a cycle hire outlet soon.
The Freewheel was opened earlier this year by Adrian Oliver, founder of CyclingAge, a Bikeability cycle-training delivery organisation.
Oliver said: “There are some great places for cyclists to stop around Kent, but I wanted to create a real oasis for them, a place they’d be welcome and where they can park their cycles with confidence, re-hydrate, recover and refresh."
And he added that his pub fits perfectly with Bikeability because it too is "about helping more people to ride more often."
The pub is on Sustrans’ National Cycle Route 1 which runs from Dover throughout Kent.
