Big-hitters on “shortlist” to become London cycling commissioner

Journalist Andrew Gilligan has tweeted that he has the shortlist for his successor as London’s cycling commissioner.

Gilligan’s list – not yet confirmed – includes architect Peter Murray, London Cycling Campaign’s Ann Kenrick, and councillors Phil Jones of Camden, Clyde Loakes of Waltham Forest and Feryal Demirci of Hackney.

Loakes is the Labour leader who pushed through the Waltham Forest mini-Holland scheme.

The role of cycling commissioner is to become a Transport for London role rather than one employed by the Mayor directly. Sadiq Khan is also to appoint a walking commissioner. Both roles are expected to be filled in January.
