Bicycling’s ad revenue soars

According to the Jan-Dec 2006 stats issued via the Publishers Information Bureau, Bicycling had the highest ad-revenue growth of magazines measured by Media Industry News, climbing 40.5 per cent in revenue and 32.7 per cent in ad pages.

The title added 63 new advertisers in 2006.

In February, Bicycling earned its first-ever selection to Adweek’s "Hot List" for titles with less than $50m in annual revenue, and it earned its second National Magazine Award nomination in three years in the category of Leisure Interests.

The title’s BikeTown program received the EPA’s Clean Air Excellence award for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 300 tons in 10 cities by getting people to ride bikes to work, while BikeTown Africa distributed 200 bikes to HIV/AIDS home healthcare workers in Botswana.

Bicycling.com was one of only five magazine brands named as a finalist for a 2006 Online Journalism Award in August.

The site has recently added a video channel in which users can upload content via Magnify.net, or YouTube URLs can be submitted and then peer-reviewed.

In the UK, ABC figures for magazines such as Cycling Plus, MBUK and Cycling Weekly are expected in the third week of February. Previous ABC figures can be found here. The March edition of BikeBiz will feature a sector guide on British bicycle magazines. Cover PDFs and info can be supplied to carly.bailey@intentmedia.co.uk
