Sponsored Article in Partnership with Bafang
Leveraging over two decades of deep technical expertise, Bafang stands among the few global enterprises possessing full-chain, one-stop capabilities for complete interconnected eBike systems R&D and production. This integrated approach ensures deep synergy between critical components, including motors, displays, batteries, controllers, sensors and other components. It powers Bafang’s diverse product portfolio, such as the H730 3-speed automatic shifting hub system and M430 cargo mid-drive system.
These advanced systems are underpinned by battery technology engineered for exceptional reliability, safety, and environmental responsibility. Meeting stringent new EU standards like EN 50604-1 and Regulation 2023/1542 demonstrates Bafang’s fundamental commitment to European safety expectations and consumer trust. The true focus lies in how these batteries achieve superior performance through advanced design, rigorous testing, and sustainable practices.
Bafang’s battery development leverages lessons from the demanding automotive industry, featuring multi-protection designs. Bafang’s automotive-grade Battery Management Systems (BMS) provide millisecond-level communication to monitor critical parameters such as voltage, current and temperature throughout the battery’s entire lifecycle.
All batteries have optimised cell performance and proprietary call activating technology. Combined with intelligent trickle charging to ensure each cell operates at its potential. This synergy maximises energy utilisation and significantly extends the overall battery cycle life. The advanced design also offers a secure charging ecosystem. All chargers incorporate multi-control safety features. They maintain real-time communication with the battery, guaranteeing a secure and highly efficient charging process.
Finally, thanks to advanced sealing solutions that employ high-temperature resistant, flexible seals, combined with precision laser welding, a hermetic seal is created to prevent water ingress, a critical factor in long-term reliability and safety, enabling batteries to perform optimally even in harsh conditions.
Bafang uses rigorous testing from initial development to final production. The R&D testing of batteries involves several rigorous validations across specialised labs, including environmental reliability, mechanical performance, safety compliance, and real-world simulation, covering tests such as mechanical shock, crush, drop, vibration, salt spray immersion, and extreme temperature cycling.
Testing also takes place during production, with comprehensive quality controls including full-system matching verification to ensure seamless component integration, and 100% advanced charge-discharge testing to verify efficiency, cycle life, thermal management, and voltage stability against international standards.
Sustainability is also a core focus at Bafang, with established internal traceability systems for real-time material and order data access. Partnering with assemblers and dealers enables battery-eBike-owner binding, forming the operational core for future battery passports. They actively partner with SGS, TÜV, DEKRA, and UL to develop these systems and robust carbon footprint models.
With a revised DFM manual, Bafang focuses on lifecycle optimisations to embed sustainability from inception. Thanks to its process of prioritising recyclable materials, simplified structures and enhanced reparability, they minimise their impact on the environment. Bafang also has a circular supply chain, sourcing exclusively from Tier 1 global cell suppliers, who adhere strictly to EU circular economy targets for recycled content and recyclability. Rigorous IQC protocols ensure material performance, safety, and consistency.
Bafang’s battery technology is defined by its relentless focus on safety and durability. Bafang delivers reliable, long-lasting, and environmentally conscious eBike drive solutions, empowering global partners and riders with confidence for the journey ahead.
