Both Brian Cookson, British Cycling’s president and Doug Bailey, the logistics manager for British Cycling, have received praise for their contributions to the "Re-invention of cycle sport in this country," reports Bikeforall.net.
Brian Cookson has been awarded an OBE for his part in the revival of the organisation over the past ten years, which he became involved with as part of a "rescue operation" during 1996. Cookson is now at the hem of the company, which has seen outstanding growth in both participation levels and membership numbers.
“I am, of course, absolutely delighted to receive this Honour for services to cycling. Most importantly, I’d like to thank all those who have supported me personally over the years, especially my wife and family,” said Cookson
“As President of British Cycling since 1996, I feel that this is an award to the whole of the organisation, recognising the amazing progress that we have made over the last decade or so. I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to that success, from the thousands of ordinary members who make our sport work at grass roots level, right through our hard-working voluntary officials, our extremely professional staff, and our brilliant elite performers, whose medal-winning successes are a shining beacon and an inspiration for all of us.”

As National Coach in the difficult pre-Lottery funding years, Doug nevertheless achieved some great successes, and helped to set the foundations for today’s successful elite programmes. More recently he has been the epitome of our "backroom staff" providing totally reliable logistical and management support for major Games and Championships throughout the world."
