Ananda, headquartered in Shanghai, China, manufactures more than seven million motors, some two million controllers, and over a million displays a year. The business is active in both e-bike and eMobility markets, where the technology crossover offers it an at-scale development and production advantage.

With this volume of production, sustainability is a key point of focus for the business, which operates three production bases in China, located in Jiangsu, Tianjin, and Anhui, along with two European locations – a production base and service centre in Hungary, and an overseas office in the Netherlands facilitates seamless communications and support for European operations.

Committed to reducing its operational carbon footprint through a mix of renewables, efficiency, and certification – actions which reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions – Ananda knows that this approach is supporting both its own climate goals and those of its customers.

  • In 2024, the business reports it generated 303,505 kWh of electricity via solar installation. (For context, the average British home uses 2,700 kWh per year.)
  • Embracing Industry 4.0 with the integration of intelligent digital technologies into manufacturing and industrial processes is not just for productivity, but to drive and monitor ESG performance.

Expanding on this, the business states: “Sustainability is not just a goal, it’s how we shape the future of mobility. As a leading e-drive system supplier, we know that every motor we produce has a ripple effect: on the environment, on communities, and on the transport systems of tomorrow. That’s why we align our operations, innovation, and services with long-term environmental and social responsibility.

“eMobility contributes to a more Sustainable and future-ready form of mobility, and Ananda plays a central role in accelerating the adaptation worldwide. We produce around 7 million motors each year–enabling millions of bikes and vehicles that replace short car trips, saving an estimated 2–3 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually.”

The business is keen to highlight that, as an EOM manufacturer working partners, it is also helping customers achieve their own ESG targets – with these actions go beyond compliance, offering real value for partners looking to integrate sustainability into every link of their supply chain.”

Ananada has signed the SBTi Commitment (Science-Based Targets initiative), and is CBAM ready (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism)

A dedicated repair centre in Hungary extends the life of motors and controllers, reducing waste and material use. This supports circularity and gives customers a lower-carbon, lower-cost alternative to full replacement.

The business acknowledges that packaging materials remain an area with work to be done, and is already phasing in packaging made from renewable and recyclable materials, while also introducing reusable formats – cutting down on single-use waste and improves the carbon performance of every product delivered.

Certification and compliance

The business points out that its “products carry certifications including RoHS, EN15194:2017, and UL2849:2022, ensuring they are free from hazardous substances, compliant with European or US road safety regulations, and rigorously tested for safety – whilst also making sure that “they are compliant according to applicable regulations.” In part, this is done “in collaboration with renowned institutes like TUV.”
