Adventurer Alastair Humphreys to Speak at the EOS 2016 & OutDoor Signs

The European Outdoor Group (EOG) is pleased to announce that adventurer, microadventurer and author Alastair Humphreys is to be the opening speaker for the European Outdoor Summit (EOS) 2016, and leading trade fair, OutDoor, as the next big industry name to sign as a sponsor.

Founded in 2003 by 19 of the world’s largest outdoor companies, all of which recognised the need for a cohesive, cross-border approach to representation of the outdoor sector, the European Outdoor Group addresses a world of increasing internationalisation. Legislation, environment, the media and trade are all now multinational issues.

The European Outdoor Summit is an initiative of the European Outdoor Group, the association set up to represent the common interests of the European outdoor industry. The event is held annually and is a credible, relevant, informative resource that enables around 300 delegates to learn more about, reflect on and discuss the issues that they collectively face. The EOG has the lead role in delivering the summit, agreeing on topics related to industry needs, focusing on current and future economic, technical and social trends, and developing a theme and content that matters to the trade across Europe.

Signing as a support sponsor and a key addition to the EOS, OutDoor began as a niche trade fair for nature sports enthusiasts and specialist suppliers in 1994. It has since developed into a global platform for the entire outdoor and sports market and specialist retail trade and is an annual highlight for exhibitors, trade visitors and press. The event attracts 940 exhibitors from 341 countries, 21,464 trade visitors from 85 countries and 1,052 journalists from 29 countries.

Having carried out challenging expeditions all around the world, and named as one of National Geographic’s Adventurers of the year for 2012, Alastair further strengthens the EOS speaker line-up and his talk on microadventures will add an energetic, inspirational and motivational dimension to the agenda. A microadventure is an adventure that is short, simple, local, cheap – yet still fun, exciting, challenging, refreshing and rewarding.

As the world’s population becomes increasingly urbanised, busy, and stuck in front of a screen, microadventures offer a realistic escape to wilderness, simplicity and the great outdoors, without the need to ski to the South Pole or go live in a cabin in Patagonia. The appeal of microadventures is that they make adventure accessible to people who may have very little outdoor experience.

This year’s EOS takes place between September 29th and 30th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Barcelona, Spain.
