National retailer has knuckles rapped over 'misleading' ad

Ad watchdog slams Argos over delivery claims

The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) has banned an Argos commercial that claimed the retailer could deliver ‘at a time slot that’s right for you’, according to the Daily Mail.

Despite the national retail chain’s delivery promise, carried in its Christmas advertising campaign, it was actually found to offer to deliver in strict time slots – either from 7am to 1pm, or 12pm to 8pm.

The news is expected to warn other retailers offering home delivery over making delivery claims they can’t keep.

The ASA said: "We considered the claim, ‘we can deliver when you want at a time slot that’s right for you’, implied that customers could specify a delivery time of their choosing, which was at their convenience, and therefore that they had a wide degree of choice about when their goods would be delivered.

"Because we understood that was not the case, we concluded that the ad was misleading."
