Shimano has unveiled its new Dura-Ace WH-R9370 road wheel series, introducing a lighter and more aerodynamic line-up developed for modern road racing, time trialling and triathlon.
The new wheel range includes the C36, C50, C60, C99 front wheel and rear disc wheel, with Shimano positioning the series as its next-generation race platform for riders seeking speed, responsiveness and long-term serviceability.
Developed under Shimano’s Science of Speed design philosophy, the WH-R9370 series has been engineered around lower weight, improved aerodynamic performance and revised stiffness characteristics, with the brand saying the line-up has been validated with WorldTour riders and professional triathletes.
Compared with the previous Dura-Ace R9270 generation, Shimano says the new wheels reduce weight by up to 220g per wheelset. Claimed weights are 1,170g for the C36, 1,302g for the C50 and 1,389g for the C60.
The wheels have also been optimised for 28-30C tyres, reflecting the continued move towards wider race rubber. The series features a 23mm internal rim width, front- and rear-specific rim profiles and external widths designed to balance aerodynamic efficiency with crosswind stability.
In testing at 48km/h on 30C tyres, Shimano claims riders can achieve up to 2.7 watts less aerodynamic drag compared with the previous generation.
A key update is the use of new carbon spokes, produced in two profiles: Super Aero, measuring 5.2mm x 0.8mm, and Aero, measuring 4.0mm x 1.1mm. Shimano says spoke type, count and configuration vary by model to tune each wheel for its intended use, from climbing response to all-round race performance and high-speed rigidity.
The WH-R9370 wheels retain Shimano’s adjustable cup-and-cone hub architecture, while adding replaceable bearings for improved serviceability. Shimano says its updated cup-and-cone system delivered 30% lower rotational torque than typical cartridge-bearing setups in comparative testing.
Dura-Ace WH-R9370 range
The C36 is pitched as the lightweight climbing option, weighing a claimed 1,170g per set. It uses a 23mm internal rim width, Aero carbon spokes and a 29.4mm external width front and rear.
The C50 is the all-round model, with a claimed 1,302g wheelset weight. It uses Aero carbon spokes, with a 31.0mm external width at the front and 32.0mm at the rear.
The C60 is designed for flat stages, breakaways and sprint-focused racing, weighing a claimed 1,389g per set. It uses Aero carbon spokes with a 31.5mm external front width and 32.3mm rear width.
The C99 front wheel is aimed at time trial and triathlon use, with a 99mm rim depth, 16 Super Aero carbon spokes, 35.2mm external width and a claimed weight of 792g.
The rear disc wheel completes Shimano’s dedicated aerodynamic set-up for solo efforts against the clock. It features full disc construction and a claimed weight of 987g.
Shimano says development included feedback from professional triathletes and riders from Alpecin – Premier Tech Cycling Team and Fenix – Premier Tech Cycling Team. The brand said input from athletes including Kat Matthews and Mathieu van der Poel helped refine acceleration response, sprint stability and crosswind predictability.
The Dura-Ace WH-R9370 wheel series is due to become available from September 2026 onwards, with precise availability varying by region.
