Fizik has launched the Ferox 2 Carbon, the brand’s most “lightweight, high-performance off-road racing shoe,” specifically tuned for speed and efficient power transfer. Ferox 2 retains its signature Powerstrap hybrid closure system and gains an updated anatomical fit for enhanced comfort and efficiency. Engineered specifically for fast gravel rides and XC MTB competition, this top-tier shoe offers a modern shape with a new foot-conforming bootie, delivering the confidence needed to perform over demanding terrain.
A NATURAL, NEW SHAPE
Over the past few years, bike geometry and riding positions have changed significantly. This has led to a knock-on impact for the contact points between riders and their bikes. Fizik’s latest shoes, like the recent Lyra and now also Ferox 2, have responded to this shift with an updated anatomical shape, allowing riders to more easily achieve modern riding positions in comfort.
Ferox 2 specifically responds to this shift with an updated anatomical shape that uses a reduced heel drop to offer a more natural pedalling feeling. This is paired with an expanded toe box that gives the foot the space it needs to fully extend, ensuring an ergonomic fit and enhanced comfort during high-intensity efforts.
Brand Manager, Alex Locatelli said: “We know flat profile, low drop and a wider forefoot is the best combination for power transfer and long fast days on modern bikes, but we still validated this with extensive testing with XC racers. The prototype we made allowed the riders to drop their heels better on technical descents with less stress on the calf muscle. This meant they could be more relaxed and save energy, but also have more control of their rear wheel.”

SECURE FIT, CONFIDENT POWER
The now iconic dual closure system ensures a secure, customised fit, while a new foot-hugging bootie, made from perforated Airprene material, delivers increased comfort and pressure-free support. At the instep, the Powerstrap offers superior foot containment during the high-cadence efforts that are common in off-road racing. Crashing can also sadly be common in off-road racing, and the Powerstrap acts as a crashproof system that keeps you moving to the finish line. At the forefoot, a premium Li2 BOA® Fit System allows riders to fine-tune the fit to their exact foot shape, delivering lasting support and confident control.
Simone Orlando, Fizik Product Specialist: “We have also invested time into Powerstrap to work even better than before. We added an angled loop where the strap attaches to the inside of the foot. This allows Powerstrap to lock into the footbed and outsole for increased power, but still cross the top of the foot in the most comfortable way possible. The new strap is thinner and lighter than before, increasing the flexibility and comfort. It doesn’t break if you crash, feels better than before, weighs less, is infinitely adjustable and spreads pressure across a wider area.”
BUILT LIGHT, FEELS LIGHT
Ferox 2’s upper repels water, preventing the shoe from gaining weight in wet or muddy conditions and uses a tear-resistant outer layer to protect from bumps and scrapes. The PU-laminated upper features distinct functional zones, combining a lightweight mesh for breathability and reduced weight with additional PU layers in higher wear areas for added protection. Paired with the foot-wrapping bootie, Ferox delivers a performance fit with enhanced comfort and ventilation, ideal for high-intensity off-road riding.
Brand Manager, Alex Locatelli: “Redesigning the upper for Ferox 2 was one of our main challenges; it ended up being a 3-way compromise on the upper. We wanted it to be more breathable and more flexible than the first version, but remain durable for off-road racing. To achieve this, we used 2 different mesh layers, in specific shapes and zones, seeking maximum breathability. Once we’d achived our breathability targets we then utilised a PU layer over the mesh to add durability back in. The unexpected benefit of this was our creative team had lots of freedom to layer colours and shapes over each other and play with transparency.”
Ferox 2 features a redesigned full-carbon outsole with a lowdrop profile, engineered to prioritise foot stability and support for more efficient power transfer. With an excellent stiffness-to-weight ratio, the carbon plate is now wider and lower, maximising contact with the pedal and optimising energy transfer from the rider to the crank. The outsole includes stud fitments and a complete rubber coating, including the midfoot area, to enhance grip and traction during off-the-bike moments.
