The wait is over. Episode #3 of the BikeBiz Podcast is now live. In this episode, host Pedro Couto Lopes sits down with Nikki Hawyes, CEO of Whyte Bikes, for a masterclass in modern leadership.
Following our deep dives into the inventory crisis and market recovery, Nikki offers a rare, unvarnished look at the “heavy lifting” required to steer an iconic British brand through a private equity exit. From her “sandwich lunch” onboarding sessions to the strategic return to Whyte’s off-road heritage, this is an essential briefing for anyone navigating the 2026 trade.
What we cover in this episode:

The BikeBiz Podcast Interview: Nikki Hawyes
Being comfortable with being uncomfortable is how you grow. Growth comes from when it’s difficult—it doesn’t come from when it’s easy. — Nikki Hawyes
Pedro Couto Lopes: Nikki, you stepped into Whyte during a challenging time, the post-COVID “boom and bust,” a restructuring, and a shift from a family-run business to private equity. How did you approach rebuilding morale?
Nikki Hawyes: I listened. I sat down and talked to everybody. I held lunches where we just sat around the table with sandwiches, and I said, “Ask me anything.” Everybody has the right to be heard and has a valid opinion. You have to honour the past and be honest about the right now to give people hope for the future.
Pedro: You’ve spoken about “Niche Agility.” How does a brand like Whyte compete when the global giants have such massive R&D budgets?
Nikki: Being small means we can be agile. We can be early adopters of innovation. We don’t want to be everything to everybody; we only bring a bike to market if we believe it’s making the ride better. We’ll go head-to-head with the biggest brands in reviews and win because we are focused on our core purpose.
