The Higginson family, owners of award-winning folding e-bike brand MiRider, have installed 300 solar panels on their Wigan distribution centre, marking a major step in their commitment to sustainability and cost-saving innovation.

The installation, which follows a new roof replacement, will generate a significant proportion of the centre’s energy needs. This sizeable installation is predicted to have an expected payback period of four years.

Stephen Alty, Director at MiRider, said: “This is about investing in the future – for our businesses, our customers and the planet. As a brand built on innovation, sustainability is at the heart of what we do, and this move reflects that ambition.”

The installation was carried out by Eco Renewables Group Ltd, with the new roof supplied by Form and Build Ltd. From their Wigan HQ, MiRider has produced over 10,000 British-made folding e-bikes, championing local manufacturing while growing a loyal nationwide customer base.

Martin Higginson, Director at MiRider, added: “We’re proud to be investing in sustainable solutions that keep our businesses competitive while reducing our environmental impact. This is another step in future-proofing our operations here in Wigan.”

The distribution centre, based within Wigan’s Martland Business Park, is also home to MiRider’s sister brands, Festive Lights and SafariPak, and provides third party fulfilment for external businesses.
