9.3 per cent sales uplift for Halfords

The trading update for the 26 weeks to 29th September showed that sales increased by 9.3 per cent over the equivalent period in 2005.

CEO Ian McLeod said:

"Halfords’ sales and service strategy has continued to deliver like-for-like sales growth in each of its key categories. We remain confident in the resilience of our business as demonstrated by these results, giving us encouragement for our prospects in the second half."

Halfords is to start rolling out standalone Bikehut stores later this year. The first will open in Brighton in November. This is a relaunch of the standalone concept: Halfords was planning to roll out the concept in 2003 following a trial at a standalone Bikehut store in Havant.

McLeod said there could be two or three standalone Bikehut’s before Christmas.
