21st September is World Car-Free Day

Adbusters is said to be "a global network of artists, activists, writers, pranksters, students, educators and entrepreneurs who want to advance the new social activist movement of the information age."

Adbusters Media Foundation, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, publishes Adbusters magazine (85 000 subscribers) and a website and operates an advocacy advertising agency. It’s a not-for-profit organisation.

"Our aim is to topple existing power structures and forge a major shift in the way we will live in the 21st century."

Adbusters like bikes. Root around the Adbusters website for pro-bike posters and images. On Car Free Day how about tagging cars with the Adbusters spoof parking tickets? These are high-quality PDFs, available for free download. They’re pink and are said to emanate from the ‘Department of Motor Vehicles’. Motorists are fined $17 000 each for using a form of transport that "incurs economic costs on the city which have not been included in the retail price."

Such as?

The fine can be paid "by switching to another mode of transport such as public transit or bicycle…"
