Industry sources have confirmed to BikeBiz that the purchase of Chain Reaction Cycles by Wiggle has been referred to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
The CMA – responsible for investigating mergers – is currently surveying bike and P&A suppliers for their views on the huge deal. Suppliers do not have long to respond to the survey, with the deadline this week, BikeBiz believes.
The news broke that Wiggle was buying Chain Reaction Cycles in February and industry speculation has been widespread over whether the move would be referred to the CMA.
The deadline of the official invitation to comment (presumably for any interested parties) is May 18th 2016, according to the CMA.
The Authority is particularly concerned with online bike and P&A sales, rather than swim and running-wear. Suppliers are being asked a number of questions which [UPDATED] the CMA has asked remain confidential to those not taking part in the survey.
