Cyclists are set to benefit from new laws that will require heavy goods vehicles to be fitted with blind-spot mirrors, saving the lives of an estimated 18 cyclists a year.
The British Government has adopted the EU legislation following a campaign led by Cycling Plus magazine, according to BikeRadar.
Under the new rules, all vehicles over 3.5 tonnes will have to be fitted with the wide-angle and close proximity mirrors from March 31st.
Compulsory annual tests will take place to ensure HGV mirrors comply with the new legislation.
