British hand-built bicycle manufacturer Sven Cycles will now act as UK distributor for Compass Cycles tyres.
Darron Coppin of Sven Cycles, who has been using Compass Cycles tyres since the inception of his brand, confirmed this week that the company will now be representing Compass Cycles in the UK.
Compass Cycles, founded by Jan Heine, evolved out of research carried out for Bicycle Quarterly – the magazine he created to write about the culture, history and technology of cycling. With its preference for wide, high-performance tyres, Compass Cycles apparently lays claim to coining the phrase ‘Allroad bike.’
Bicycle Quarterly’s research soon expanded into what improves a bicycle’s performance. One of the results was that Pro racers now use wider tyres, which Bicycle Quarterly had found to roll faster than narrow ones. The research showed that classic designs could offer superior performance and function even today, especially for ‘Allroad’ bikes that handle gravel and paved surfaces with equal speed and comfort.
Compass Cycles is now making the tyres available to modern cyclists; manufacturing and distributing original designs, as well as manufacturing other components in the same spirit, under the Compass Cycles brand.
