Specialized goes partially consumer-direct

Specialized stockists can now opt in to reveal their real-time stock availability. This provides up-to-the-second inventory information on Specialized.com, which can then be located via a ‘find nearby’ button.

Specialized UK MD Simon Homer said: “S_Connect has been a big goal for us and allows riders to connect with our strong retailer network 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by finding bikes and equipment in retailers that are conveniently located."

Most Specialized dealers have already opted in to the programme.

"Moving forward the benefits of S_Connect go beyond rider connection, as we will also be able to provide valuable feedback on things like product demand and ranging," added Homer.

If a local dealer doesn’t have a product in stock consumers will be able to buy it on Specialized.com for home delivery via the new "E-Commerce" function.

"The launch of E-Commerce for our apparel and equipment ranges is all about representing the full range to the rider," said Homer.

"We want to ensure that if a rider is looking to purchase a particular equipment line, then they have the option to find it nearby and, if this isn’t possible, they still have the option to gain access to it through Specialized.com. Our aim is to create the best experience for the rider.”

E-Commerce is already operational in the US and Australia, and will be available in the UK from tomorrow.
