Smiffy resigns from MBUK; Fawcett lands a job in PR

He’s leaving to take up a variety of freelance projects after being unhappy at the market-leading magazine for some time.

"Due to many and assorted factors, I decided I’d enjoy life a whole lot more if I had time to enjoy the sunshine. Ride my bike once in a while, sit and watch the flowers blowing in the gentle summer breeze as I listen to the alarm sounding on my heart rate monitor," said Smith, lyrically.

"So I handed in my resignation, it was accepted, and I’m working my four weeks notice period. So for four weeks there’s no change and it’s business as usual. After that I’m available for weddings and barmitzvahs, but I draw the line at coffee mornings so don’t bother asking.

"Rest assured for the sake of the mountain bike industry and relations with MBUK, I’ll try and do whatever I can to make sure whoever ends up sitting in this chair knows the difference between 6061 and 7005. Not to mention which filler rod should be used!"

Malcolm Fawcett has now returned to the cycling fold after a brief period of “gardening leave“ following the demise of madformountainbiking.com. Fawcett becomes marketing manager at Pressure PR, owned by Guy Andrews, former editor of Cycling Today.

Fawcett started his cycling career working as the brand manager for early suspension pioneers Offroad who went on to become Pro•flex.

Fawcett was later part of the team that launched Maximum Mountainbiking magazine on an unsuspecting, and generally unappreciative, public and went on to work freelance with Cycling Today, MBR and the CTC’s house mag.
