The European Cyclists’ Federation reports that the publishing rights to a Portugese-language cycling book for children are up for grabs. And for free.
Originally created for European Mobility Week in 2011, the book is currently being sold in stores in Lisbon. Catarian Freitas, who heads the city’s Sustainable Environmental Management and Planning Department is the co-author of the book. It’s called O meu livro de bicicletas, My book of bicycles.
Freitas is calling upon any other organisations to make use of the book for free and translate it into their own languages. She can be contacted by email: cfreitas@cma.m-almada.pt
Over 9000 children in Almada are receiving the book this Christmas, presents from Almada City Council.
"Normally, we offer some pencils,” said Freitas.
“This year we decided to go a little further and offered a bicycle book for children."
The book has chapters on bicycle history, bike maintenance, and how to ride. It also features a list of bike-related activities for children to take part in as well as an accompanying board game.
