Retailer Saddle & Spoke makes Small Business Top 100

Smarta and O2 have announced that cycle retailer Saddle & Spoke is a winner of the 2013 Smarta 100 a list for the ‘100 most innovative, disruptive and resourceful small businesses in the UK’.

Two thirds of the companies on the list are are self-funded, with the list turning over £67m and generating profits of £12m.

Other cycle-related businesses joining Saddle & Spoke in the list of 100 winners include Blaze, the firm behind the innovative laser light which projects the symbol of a bike onto the road ahead of a cyclist and into a motorist’s ‘blindspot’.

Saddle & Spoke was founded by Claire Armstrong last year. She said: "I am delighted that Saddle & Spoke has been shortlisted for the Start Up Of The Year award in the Smarta 100. Having only launched one year ago, this is quite an achievement especially when you look at all the amazing start ups this country has produced in the last year. But more importantly, I have been delighted with how much the cycling community has embraced Saddle & Spoke and our offer."

The businesses have been split into ten categories of ten, with Saddle & Spoke listed in the ‘Start Up’ category. Voting is now open to decide the winners. The 10 winners will receive £1,000 and make the final shortlist for the grand prize £10,000 ‘Smarta 100, together with O2, business of the Year’ award.
