Regarding the Decathlon carrier, the French national consumer protection authority has warned: The straps slip and come undone during static and road tests, creating a risk that the cycle carrier and its load may fall off during use.
RAPEX publicised this alert via its weekly updated website.
A recall of the TH 700 carrier has been issued to French stores and a similar recall will be issued to other sales points, noted RAPEX.
RAPEXs aim is the rapid exchange of information about national dangerous product marketing bans and restrictions, enabling other EU consumer protection organisations to ban blacklisted goods.
David Byrne, EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, said:
"For the first time manufacturers have the legal obligation to inform authorities if a product is unsafe. These are recalled and taken off the market. Also for the first time the Commission can now initiate recalls and provisional bans to assure the same level of protection for the entire EU. This is very good news for consumers."
