At today’s AGM of the Bicycle Assocation, held in London, the outgoing president of the BA announced that Phillip Darnton has been appointed as executive director of the BA.
Darnton’s role as chair of Cycling England ceased earlier this year after the coalition Government abolished the body charged with getting more people cycling, more often.
Darnton came into the bike trade as the managing director of Raleigh and was appointed president of the Bicycle Aasociation when he left the company.
He has many connections in the not-at-all connected worlds of politics, bicycle advocacy and the bike industry.
At today’s AGM of the Bicycle Association Darnton’s new role was unveiled by outgoing president Philip Taylor of Schwalbe-importer Bohle.
Darnton was welcomed into his public-facing role by Mark Bickerton of Cyclemotion who was voted in as new president of the Bicycle Association.
One of Darnton’s roles will be to boost Bike Hub, the cycle industry’s levy fund.
