Peter Eland, the former publisher of Velo Vision, has started producing a quarterly newsletter for the Bicycle Association of Great Britain. The snappily-titled "BA News" is a PDF publication emailed to BA members. Eland will also be helping Alan Cater, the BA’s technical consultant.
The appointment of Eland was made by Steve Garidis, the BA’s relatively new operations director.
Eland has a mechanical engineering background and ran his own cycle magazine publishing company for over 15 years. As well as Velo Vision he also published Electric Bike magazines. Both titles were sold to new publishers earlier this year.
The Bicycle Association is the trade body for the UK’s cycle suppliers and also operates the Bike Hub levy fund. This levy raises about £350,000 each year, the bulk of which goes to British Cycling’s Go-Ride youth cycling programme. Bike Hub also supports Sustrans’ Big Pedal and has funded LCC and CTC’s space4cycling campaign. Earlier this year money from Bike Hub was pooled with a contribution from British Cycling to pay for the Space and Side by Side road safety videos fronted by Chris Boardman.
A new website for the association is due to be unveiled soon. It will include a new collection of membership benefits.
