New Year’s honour for MD of Brompton

William Butler-Adams, MD Brompton Bicycle has been awarded an Order of the British Empire, OBE, in the New Year’s honours, "for services to UK Manufacturing."

However, there was no recognition for Gary Verity who brought the Tour de France to Yorkshire. "The man who bought the Tour de France – and millions of spectators – to Yorkshire is a disappointing omission," complained the Yorkshire Post, a decision "that will surprise and dismay many in this county who continue to be in awe of his enthusiasm and determination."

The newspaper stated that "many thought his efforts were worthy of a knighthood."

Other sports administrators were "celebrated," said the newspaper, "while these recipients are worthy, it still does not excuse the decision to snub Mr Verity – or the team who supported him."
