Manchester readies for bike boom

The North West of England has long been a hot-bed of bicycle retail, Manchester especially. Strong IBDs such as Harry Halls and Bicycle Doctor have been equipping Manchester’s bicycle commuters for many years.

And Evans and Edinburgh Bicycle both now have large bike shops in Manchester.

All of Manchester’s bike shops will benefit from a London-style bike boom when congestion charging is introduced. Unfortuntately, CC doesn’t arrive until 2012.

Eight out Manchester’s ten regional councils have just approved the introduction of congestion charging. Motorists will be charged £5 a day for entering Manchester’s city centre.

The congestion charging revenue will be used to improve public transport in Manchester, as well as better bike infrastructure.
