Norway’s Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon is reputed to be the toughest full distance triathlon on Earth.
This year, Quarq Race Intelligence is equipping every Norseman competitor with a Qollector to broadcast their location, speed, ascent and endurance sport biometrics on the Quarq Race Intelligence website. Athletes can be tracked on a tablet or smartphone and the Find Me button, which highlights a support team’s position on the course, makes food, drink and clothing hand-offs dependable.
Dag Oliver, Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon General Manager, sees Quarq Race Intelligence as a natural extension of the race’s legacy: “Norseman is a tribute to triathlon, where you bring your friends and family as support crew so they can share your experience. With Quarq Race Intelligence, racers can share their experience with fans anywhere in the world, online and in real time.”
Quarq Founder and Technology Director, Jim Meyer, says the Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon is an ideal showcase for the system he conceived: “Norseman is a day-long journey through some of Norway’s most spectacular, yet challenging, terrain. With a 24-hour battery, ruggedized polycarbonate case, IPX7 waterproofing and ANT+, Qollector was made for races like this. We’re fortunate and excited to work with Dag, his Norseman Crew and the competitors.”
The Isklar Norseman Xtreme Triathlon will be held on August 6th 2016 in Eidfjord, Norway, starting at 5:00 AM local time. The race begins in Hardangerfjord, crosses the haunting Hardangervidda mountain plateau, and finishes at the rocky peak of Gaustatoppen, 1,850m above sea level. The total ascent is 5,000m.
