Halfords launches 2014 Christmas TV ad campaign

Halfords’ has unveiled its TV ad campaign for Christmas, asking parents and offspring “Does anything beat a bike?”

The ‘nostalgic’ ad launches tonight (October 29th) for 30 seconds and then during ITV’s ratings magnet The X Factor on Saturday. The full 60 second version (as below) will be used online and on social media.

Ad agency Mother wrote and created the ad, which was directed by Aoife McArdle of Somesuch & Co. You could argue that it calls to mind ’80s films like ET (minus the alien in the basket and flying bit) which is no bad thing.

Those involved said it "encapsulating the freedom of cycling for children while inspiring memories of the cherished Christmas present for adults from childhood".

Halfords newly promoted marketing director Karen Bellairs said “We wanted our Christmas ad to capture the magic and nostalgia of Christmas and evoke the feelings of being a child surrounded by that magic on Christmas Day, along with all the expectation and excitement that brings.

“We’re also showing the confidence we have in our offer – we all remember the universal experience of receiving a new bike and wanting to get out and ride it straightaway on Christmas Day – after all, you can’t do wheelies on a tablet!”
