Eddy Merckx Cycles joins Jim Walker stable

Jim Walker and Co has announced that legendary racer Eddy Merckx has signed an exclusive distribution deal with the firm.

Eddy Merckx is still the only rider in history to have won each of the yellow jersey; the green points jersey; and the King of the Mountains polka dot in the same Tour de France.

The rider’s brand received financial investment last year and has recently announced two new high quality carbon frames.

Jim Walker will be the exclusive distributor for Eddy Merckx Cycles in the UK and Ireland and the new EMX5 and EMX3 will be available in store in the coming weeks together with the existing successful carbon LXM. Further new additions to the range are expected in October 2009 ready for the London Cycle show.

Jim Walker CEO Ian Wilson said: “We are really excited about adding Eddy Merckx Cycles to our portfolio. We visited Belgium where the products are still designed and we had the honour to meet with Eddy himself and clearly, the great man is still very much involved in the whole design process. Together with the new financial management, what we saw of the new EMX products and their vision for the future, meant we just had to be onboard. The Eddy Merckx history and the real performance of their products fit absolutely perfectly with our business and strategy.”

The distributor is now seeking a specialist dealer network to handle the brand, which is said to offer ‘attractive margin incentives’.
