Dawes backs Wheel Heroes

Dawes Cycles has got behind the Cyclists Fighting Cancer charity, sponsoring a major fundraising event – ‘The Wheel Heroes 100s’ – next year.

On May 22nd cyclists will take place in either a 100 mile or 100km ride around Stratford on Avon, Chipping Campden and Stow on the Wold.

Cyclists Fighting Cancer (CFC) donates bikes, specially adapted trikes and tandems to children and young people affected by cancer to encourage them to get active again. CFC was set up by Mike Grisenthwaite, himself a cancer survivor and keen cyclist.

Julie Hayward, sales director of Dawes Cycles (pictured with Grisenthwaite above), enthused: ”After our first meeting it became very clear to me what a fantastic charity Mike had started. I was swept away with his enthusiasm but also the quiet determined way he operates after dealing with cancer twice himself.”

“When Mike came to us with ‘Wheel Heroes 100’s’ I wanted to get more involved and support this marvellous cause. Helping to get children with cancer and in some cases their families too, on to bikes or trikes can make a huge difference, not only help increase their level of fitness or just enjoy some family time together.”

Grisenthwaite added: "Having Dawes on board for the Wheel Heroes event is fantastic – they are great people to work with. I am passionate about making this event a fun and exciting experience for everyone who takes part whilst at the same time helping raising the cash to help kids affected by cancer. Something as simple as a bike really does change their lives and the money raised at this event will help us donate even more bikes in the future.

“Famous for all things Shakespeare the town is perfectly positioned to offer superb cycling terrain for all abilities along the picturesque highways and byways of Warwickshire and the adjacent counties of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. It will be a fantastic day of cycling for everyone who enjoys riding a bike.”

The ride begins and ends at Stratford Racecourse, Luddington Road, Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire, CV37 9SE. For more information head to www.wheelheroes.org.uk or www.cyclistsfightingcancer.org.uk
