Cycling Weekly confirms details for 2019 awards

Cycling Weekly has confirmed details for its 2019 awards, which will return to 8 Northumberland Avenue on 28th November.

Last year 300 guests from the world of cycling, including Sir Bradley Wiggins and Sir Chris Hoy, were in attendance for the inaugural awards in association with Garmin.

Ten awards were given out, recognising the efforts of Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas alongside those of local volunteers, cycling clubs and charity fundraisers.

Chris Boardman said: “Cycling Weekly runs through all of our lives. This magazine has been in our house since I was a child. The industry has been crying out for an event like this and it is fitting that Cycling Weekly are the ones to do it.”

Two new categories are being introduced for 2019, including team of the year and inspiration of the year. Cycling Weekly has said there will be more reader involvement too, as it is putting more categories to the vote.

The 2019 awards are:

Male rider of the year
Female rider of the year
International rider of the year
Domestic rider of the year
Outstanding achievement
Lifetime achievement
Rising star
Club of the year
Best charitable Initiative
Local hero
Team of the year  – New for 2019
Inspiration of the year  – New for 2019

The black-tie event will include dinner, drinks, special guests and live music until 2am.

Head of market Sean Igoe said: “After the huge success of last year’s inaugural awards we cannot wait to make this year’s even bigger and better. I’d like to extend a big thank you to our partners for last year and look forward to working with you again for 2019.”
