CTC to produce online and printed cycle holiday directory

‘Cyclists Welcome’ will be an on line and hard copy accommodation, refreshment and services directory covering the whole of the UK and some parts of continental Europe.

If you hire bikes, make sure you’re listed.

CTC Director Kevin Mayne said: "We are providing an opportunity for thousands of businesses. Day tripping and holidaying cyclists carry very little but are big spenders, especially if they have young families with them."

And the directory could boost business for those firms hurt by FMD:

"The government wants to treble cycling by 2010 and ‘Cyclists Welcome’ is CTC’s way of helping service providers and providing new markets for others after a tough year," said Mayne.

CTC was the first national user organisation to launch a UK-wide campaign to reopen the countryside after foot and mouth, encouraging cyclists back onto lanes because offroad areas were closed.

‘Cyclists Welcome’ will be launched at The Outdoors Show in March 2002.
