Brompton founder gains MBE

Andrew Ritchie, founder and director of Brompton Bicycle Ltd. was made an MBE, for "services to business and to international trade."

Cycling England chair Phillip Darnton received an OBE for "services to transport." Darnton is a former MD of Raleigh and past president of the Bicycle Association.

The British honours system is one of the oldest in the world. It has evolved over 650 years as the country has found means of recognising merit, gallantry and service.

Honours lists are published twice a year: at New Year and in mid-June on the date of the Queen’s official birthday.
