BMX centre to be built alongside Manchester velodrome?

The BBC is reporting plans for a ‘national indoor BMX centre’, planned for construction next to Manchester Velodrome.

At a cost of £24 million, the development dubbed Sportcity will include a 2,000 seat arena and new headquarters for British Cycling.

The facility, for which plans go before the council later this week, would also be open to the wider communtiy.

If approved, the facility would also feature an outdoor ‘freestyle cycling area’ (presumably dirt jumps or a skate park style build).

Plans can be viewed by the public during a consultation event scheduled for August 4th. Work on the build would likely begin early next year and be completed by March 2011.
