BikeBiz reveals the most influential people in UK cycling

BikeBiz has published its first Brit List – a look at the top 50 most influential people in the UK cycling scene.

The BikeBiz Brit List, in association with The London Bike Show, features athletes, advocates, innovators, brand leaders, distribution chiefs, media and politicians.

Not surprisingly, leaders in the world of sport, including Sir Bradley Wiggins, Brian Cookson OBE and Sir David Brailsford are on the list, but The Brit List also includes politicians who are forging ahead with promoting cycling, such as Bristol Mayor George Ferguson and London Mayor Boris Johnson. Advocates like Ashok Sinha, Roger Geffen and Danny Williams are also featured.

Those on the coal face of the UK trade are featured, too, from distribution chiefs like Dominic Langan and Julie and Simon Ellison, to brand leaders like Chris Boardman MBE, Ian Beasant, Nick Larsen and Nigel Roberts.

The cycling media obviously exerts huge influence over both specialist and casual cyclist, whilst also setting the agenda in terms of cycling safety and more. And this group is well represented in the Brit List, from the likes of The Times’ Kaya Burgess to MBUK’s Andrew Dodd. Also on the list are innovators, such as the founders of Look Mum No Hands, Rapha and CycleFit.

The full Brit List will be published in a glossy supplement with the March issue of BikeBiz and celebrated this evening (Thursday February 13th) at a special, invitation-only drinks reception at the Fox Bar, ExCeL during the London Bike Show.

"Interest in cycling has never been higher in this country," said BikeBiz editor Jonathon Harker. "But we didn’t get to this point by luck. It was through sheer hard work from athletes, team staff, bicycle makers, event planners, cycle advocates, retailers and even journalists united in a love for cycling.

"All those people and more deserve recognition, but this list is also about looking forwards. Who will reach beyond that core audience of enthusiasts to spread the good word about cycling? Who will continue to influence the market and set the bar for the next year in the cycle business?
