Bike-shop-supporting dog-based kids’ bike book takes to Kickstarter

Former bike shop owners Scott and Jannine Fitzgerald are seeking $35,000 on Kickstarter to publish their second cycling-specific childrens’ book. With 22 days left on the clock "Buddy Pegs Taking the Lead" has already raised $16,005 from 175 backers, including bike shops ordering boxes of 24 copies at trade prices.

The couple published "B is for Bicycles" in 2015 after selling their 14-year-old Idaho bike shop.

The new book will be an "invaluable tool to teach bicycling as a lifestyle not just an activity," said Jannine Fitzgerald.

She added: “We all benefit from more kids riding bikes, but we need a paradigm shift to elevate bikes above Fidget Spinners and Pokemon Go.”

Husband Scott said: "We’re focused on crafting messaging that will connect bike riding to the building blocks of lifelong success."

"Buddy Pegs Taking the Lead" is about a bicycle-riding dogs, and highlights the importance of local bike shops on communities.
