Bank One is very pro-cycling. The Sheffield stands donation was part of its ‘Bike One Chicago’ cycle advocacy programme.
"Our goal is to continue to help Chicago maintain its position as the most bicycle-friendly city in the United States," said Melinda McMullen, Bank One’s senior vice president of corporate communications.
"These Bank One bike racks are important to Chicago residents and visitors alike who want to enjoy the convenience and benefits of traveling by bicycle," said Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Miguel d’Escoto.
"Every bicycle trip begins and ends with the need for a safe and secure place to park one’s bike."
Chicago now boasts the largest number of bike racks of any city in the US.
Bike One Chicago is a cycle advocacy initiative that includes free summer bike tours, complimentary bike valet parking at City events, and the printing of 150,000 free bike maps, as well as sponsorship of Bike Chicago 2003, Bike to Work Day and Bike the Drive.
