Sports star appears at event during his epic 1,200 mile cycle challenge

Zyro and Nigel Mansell lend support to youth project

Yorkshire-based distributor Zyro has got behind local youth event the Carlton Lodge Fun Day, for North Yorkshire Youth.

The event also saw F1 champ Nigel Mansell OBE appear, coinciding with the tenth day of his epic ‘Positive about Youth’ cycle challenge, marking the 100th year of the charity. Mansell was accompanied by his two sons Leo and Gregg, as well as Tour de France stage winner and Paris Roubaix champion Magnus Backstedt in the challenge which saw them ride 1,200 miles around the UK in 13 days without a days rest.

Zyro donated prizes for the ‘Cycling Zone’, including a £100 goody bag of cycling accessories, including a special limited edition CamelBak Classic hydration pack, Zefal Air Profil Spring bottle cage, bottle and a full set of commuter lights from Cateye. The main prize was awarded for the fastest time competing on the pedal-powered dynamo Scalextric.

“It was an absolutely amazing day,” commented Zyro marketing manager Jane Watson. “The weather held up, and around 250 under 5s-18s were able to try cycle karts, bespoke trikes and cycles, amongst all the other activities, including Paddlesports, Leap of Faiths, Zipwires, Assault Course, Archery, and Climbing Wall. The most fantastic thing about the day was that Nigel, Greg, Leo, Maggie and the whole Nigel Mansell Cycle Challenge Team, were at the centre of it all.

“It’s events like these that make cycling a much more inclusive activity. It’s great that cycling is more and more being considered part of and capturing the spirit of outdoor adventure. We were so proud to be involved, particularly as the fun day was on our doorstep and this sort of grassroots activity will hopefully be one of many to come for Zyro.”

Carlton Lodge is a charity that supports the development of children and young people.
