YHA now has a hire fleet of 100 bright yellow 'Budgie' bikes operating from five London youth hostels. An hour's rental costs just £1.50.

YHA launch budget hire-bike scheme in London

YHA’s Empty Roads Project Officer Rob Brock said: “There’s no better way to beat the traffic and get around the sites of London than by bike.

“Not only is it quick and easy to get around but it is also gives you a different view of the city, provides healthy exercise and is better for the environment than other forms of transport.

“As the bikes can be rented by the hour it’s also possible for people at work to get out for a quick spin during their lunch break in one of the many parks.”

The BudgieBikes are available from YHA Rotherhithe, YHA Earl’s Court, YHA Holland House, in Kensington, YHA St Pancras and YHA Hampstead Heath.

They are available to both hostel guests and members of public from 8am until 10pm and cost £1.50 for an hour up to a maximum of £9.50 per day.

No deposit is necessary – all that is required is identification in the form of a credit card, driving licence or passport.
