Online cycle searches have rocketted since British triumph at TdF, says VoucherCodes

Wiggins’ Le Tour win sparks bike search rise

Bradley Wiggins’ Tour de France triumph has received plenty of mainstream press coverage and has inspired consumers to seek out biking goods, according to a report from shopping and discount site VoucherCodes.co.uk.

The site has seen searches for cycling gear increase a whopping 117 per cent since Wiggins’ victory in Paris on Sunday.

Since Sunday there has been a 60 per cent increase in consumers looking for deals on bikes on VoucherCodes.co.uk and a 117 per cent increase in shoppers looking for cycle accessories like helmets, lights and safety gear.

The site said that following Cavendish’s 23rd stage win and Froome’s historic second place at the Tour, plus the Olympics riding into action in a few days, the interest in cycling has every reason to continue.

“We always see searches for outdoor sporting equipment go up in the summer months but Wiggins’ victory in the Tour De France has spurned a nation of British cyclists," said VoucherCodes.co.uk co-founder Duncan Jennings. "This buzz round cycling, coupled with London commuters facing huge delays on the tube and the recent spell of good weather, means we can expect to see a huge couple of weeks for cycle sales."
