And Halfords customers send thousands of bikes to Africa via Re~Cycle link-up

Victoria Pendleton launches girls bikes with Halfords

Victoria Pendleton has built on her bike range’s success with Halfords with a new and exclusive range of girls bikes.

Revealed last week at a press Christmas event, the bikes will be ready for the crucial season. They pick up on Pendleton’s retro-look bikes, with step through frames. There are three colours in the line-up (light blue, red and purple), all aimed at girls ages nine to 15.

In unrelated Halfords news, the customers of the retailer have now donated thousands of unwanted bikes to help local communities in Africa in a joint initiative with charity Re~Cycle.

Re~Cycle sends unwanted bikes to Africa providing affordable transport and sustainable employment to people in need. A trade-in event saw 4,300 cycles sent on their way.

Halfords CEO Matt Davies said: “We had an absolutely fantastic response to the event, with many customers simply wanting to donate bikes to a great cause. We felt that this was an exciting way to make a difference by doing something that is closely linked with our business.”

Re~Cycle founder Merlin Matthews added: “In Africa a bike can mean children can get to school, farmers can transport goods to market and health workers can get to communities in need – literally it can mean life, so this generosity is very much appreciated.”

More trade-in events are in the offing.
