Recall applies to approximately 4,000 brake calipers sold from April 2013 to December 6th

Upgrade Bikes issues recall notice for Spyre calipers

A voluntary recall notice has been issued for customers and retailers to stop riding and selling Spyre and Spyre SLC calipers.

Tektro USA/TRP Brakes has identified a specific condition that could result in failure of one or both of the brakes when installed on a bicycle.

The Spyre caliper uses a dual piston design in which ball bearings move within opposing ramps. In a specific scenario, the balls can be forced from the ramps if the actuator arm is fully activated to its stop with excessively worn or no pads installed.

The recall applies to approximately 4,000 brake calipers sold from April 2013 to December 6th, 2013.

Customers are being asked to take their Spyre or Spyre SLC’s back to the original place of purchase or to contact Upgrade Bikes to arrange a return shipment.
