Mark Cavendish scored what he described as ‘the biggest win’ of his career so far last weekend by winning the Milan-San Remo at his first attempt, as reported by highroadsports.com.
Team Columbia-Highroad’s Cavendish beat German rival Heinrich Haussler in a sprint finish to become the youngest winner of the 298km race.
The team’s helmet, as worn by Cavendish – the Columbia Uvex FP1 – is available now from Raleigh.
Speaking on his own site, Cavendish said: "It’s the most beautiful day of my life. I didn’t expect to win. I couldn’t dream of anything better."
"Hincapie helped me enormously, but the whole team stayed with me on the climbs. When Haussler broke away at top speed I was scared, but it makes the victory even sweeter."
