On 1st February, at its first meeting of the year, held at the World Championships in Hoogerheide, Netherlands, the UCI Management Committee approved the regulations for the Cycling Independent Reform Commission, and took a number of measures for the development of cycling in 2014 and beyond. The most important from the bicycle trade’s point of view is the composition of the UCI’s Equipment Commission.
A statement from the UCI said there would be a "new approach…in favour of innovation and technology."
The revamped Equipment Commission will consist of new UCI president Brian Cookson; Martijn Swinkels representing the UCI’s commissaires; Carsten Jeppesen representing race teams; a representative of the World Federation of Sporting Goods Industries, representing the bicycle industry; the UCI’s existing composites expert Professor Jan Anders Manson; Alex Roussel representing mechanics; and Martina Schär as a representative from the "wider public."
Aerodynamics engineering specialist Dimitris Katsanis, who has long worked for British Cycling, becomes a consultant to the UCI.
