Trek, the bike sponsor of Lance Armstrong, is sticking by its man, who last week decided not to contest USADA's doping charges.

Trek backs Lance

It’s no big surprise but Trek of the US has issued a statement backing Lance Armstrong, who last week decided not to contest the doping charges levelled at him by the US anti-doping agency.

The statement says: "Trek has had a long-standing relationship with Lance Armstrong and the Livestrong Foundation; as an individual he has made remarkable contributions to the sport of cycling and the fight against cancer. We are hopeful that Lance will continue to compete and make a positive contribution to the sport. Trek plans to continue to support Lance’s athletic endeavours and his efforts to combat cancer."

Last last week, Nike, another one of Armstrong’s key sponsors, also stressed it was standing by him.

The UCI has not yet issued a statement on whether it will ratify USADA’s position on wishing for the removal of Armstrong’s seven Tiur de France victories and banning Armstrong from cycle racing for life.
